Masonic Commedia: Freemasonry and the Divine Comedy
Masonic Commedia: Freemasonry and the Divine Comedy is an exploration of some of the most important lessons of Freemasonry and the connection to the timeless classic by Dante. The book is presented in three parts.
Part 1, “Walk Through Hell,” takes the reader on Dante’s journey with Virgil through Hell, using most of the rings of Hell to demonstrate the inverse property of the moral lessons of the seven liberal arts and sciences. Some of the moral lessons of the arts and sciences come from Dante’s work Convivio.
After passing through Hell, the reader then journeys up Mount Purgatory in Part 2 “Life of Labor”. In this part, the reader will explore the relationship between Three Great Duties of Mason, being Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, and the four Cardinal Virtues and the labors required to gain lease of each of the seven tiers of Purgatory.
Finally, Part 3, Fiat Lux!, takes the reader on the ultimate trek through the heavens as Beatrice guides Dante into the presence of God Himself. In this part, the reader will explore the transcendental knowledge of the “B-attitudes” of Jesus, the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path, and the sephiroths of the Jewish Kabbalah and their relationship to each station on the way to God.
