ENTRY RULES 

We encourage all interested authors, researchers, and scholars to submit their works for consideration. 

The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2024, and the announcement of winners will take place during the Masonic Awards ceremony scheduled for November 2024 in Edinburgh on the Annual Grand Lodge Communication. 

We wish all entrants the best of luck and look forward to reading your submissions that help deepen our understanding of Freemasonry and its principles.


SECTION 1: Book Submission

1.1 Categories

This prestigious award ceremony celebrates excellence in writing, research, and innovation related to Freemasonry and its principles. We invite authors and publishers to submit their books for consideration in the following categories:

Masonic History: Books that explore the history of Freemasonry and its evolution over time, from its origins to its current practices.

Masonic Philosophy and Symbolism: Books that delve into the deeper meanings and significance of Masonic symbols, teachings, and practices.


1.2- Submission Guidelines:

Eligibility: Books published within the last five years are eligible for submission. The books must be related to Freemasonry and its principles and fall within one of the above categories. (1.1)

The closing date for entries is May 31, 2024.

Book Submission Form must be filled here 

for a complete submission, the following supportive materials must be provided:

1- A physical copy of the book is to be sent to: the Grand Secretary's desk, Brother William M.S. Semple  Freemasons’ Hall, 96 George Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH2 3DH 

2- A digital copy of the Book in PDF format to be sent to: avda@grandlodgescotland.com

3- A picture of your book cover (in High definition)

4- A summary of the book's contents. 

5- Your Masonic Author biography in 5 lines

6- A high-resolution picture of yourself 


Only completed submissions will be considered.

By submitting your work, you are allowing AVDA to use the provided materials for promotional purposes.

AVDA reserves the right to alter the rules or prize(s) at any time without prior notice.

SECTION 2: White Paper Submission

2.1 Categories

This prestigious award ceremony celebrates excellence in research, analysis, and innovation related to Freemasonry and its principles. We invite researchers, academics, and professionals to submit their white papers for consideration in the following categories:


Masonic History: White papers that explore the history of Freemasonry and its evolution over time, from its origins to its current practices.

Masonic Philosophy and Symbolism: White papers that delve into the deeper meanings and significance of Masonic symbols, teachings, and practices.

Masonic Education and Instruction: White papers that provide practical guidance and instruction for Masonic rituals, traditions, and customs.

Masonic Research: White papers that present original research and analysis related to Freemasonry and its principles, from social and cultural studies to scientific and technological innovations.


2.2. Submission Guidelines

Eligibility: White papers should be related to Freemasonry and its principles and fall within one of the above categories. There are no restrictions on the publication date of the white papers.

The closing date for entries is May 31, 2024.


The paper Submission Form must be filled here 

for a complete submission, the following guidelines must be observed

Introduction: The paper should begin with an introduction—a summary of its aim, subject, context and purpose, no more than two paragraphs in length. 

Submission Format: Submissions should include a digital copy in PDF format. Please include a cover letter with your contact information and an introduction of the white paper's contents and relevance to the Masonic community. 

1. All papers should be written and presented in English and should not exceed 2000 words in length. The paper must take no longer than 25 minutes to present. Works can be sent in Word Document (.doc) or Portable Document Format (.pdf) format, with font size not exceeding 11 points.

2. The paper should be precise and without extraneous material. It should be worded in the full format in which it would be delivered. 

3. The use of AI writing assistance if ever should be clearly mentioned.

4. The main body of the paper should have been produced by the author. Any sources must be put in reference.

5. AVDA reserves the right to alter the rules or prize(s) at any time without previous notice given.

6. Papers must include the author’s name and contact details (address, e-mail and telephone numbers) using the ‘header’ or ‘footer’ of the MS Word document.

7. Authors should also submit, in a separate document a brief CV including interests and masonic involvements. 


The author of submitted papers will allow AVDA to have free access to the papers for distribution, presentation or posting. 

Unsuccessful entries can be resubmitted in subsequent years.

Only Completed submissions will be considered.

Copyright

All materials submitted to Arcana Veritas must be free from any copyright issues and have obtained proper permission from the author or publisher to be used. If there are any doubts about copyright, the Arcana Veritas judging panel should be informed.

Any Reference to a publication must be clearly mentioned and footnoted.

By ensuring that all materials are properly cleared for copyright, we can contribute to the advancement of Masonic knowledge throughout Lodges on a global level.
